Dedham Youth Soccer dissolved several Town Program teams before the fall season because not enough parents volunteered to coach.

The remaining teams now carry oversized rosters, and the organization said in its September newsletter that the larger groups are hurting the experience for players. Dedham Youth Soccer (DYS) did not say how many teams were cut or how many players were affected.

Practices started the week of Monday, Aug. 31, and the first games are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, including the Pre-K Kickers program at Rustcraft Field. The season runs through Nov. 14. The Town Program relies entirely on parent volunteers to coach. New teams are formed each fall under Massachusetts Youth Soccer guidelines.

DYS said it is still looking for volunteer coaches and that it is not too late to sign up. No prior coaching experience is required. The organization said it will provide training, guidance and equipment to anyone willing to step in. Parents interested in coaching can email the Town Directors at [email protected].

As of December 2025, DYS had close to 1,000 athletes across its programs. A current enrollment figure for fall 2026 was not available.

The newsletter also listed community events tied to the season. DYS Night at the High School is Friday, Sept. 11, when the Dedham High boys varsity team hosts Wayland at 5 p.m. and the girls varsity team hosts Watertown at 7 p.m. DYS Night at the Revs is Sept. 19 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, where the New England Revolution face Orlando City with a 5:30 p.m. tailgate and 7:30 p.m. kickoff. DYS members get reserved seating and discounted tickets.

A final Town Referee make-up meeting for current or former DYS players in grades 6 through 8 is Sunday, Sept. 13, from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 26 Bryant St. At least one parent must attend. Players who did not attend either of the two earlier sessions and miss this one will not be eligible to referee Town games this season.
