Republican Elizabeth Dionne is challenging Democratic incumbent Deborah B. Goldberg for Massachusetts treasurer in the Nov. 3, 2026, election. Both are listed in the official candidate roster.

Dionne is a Belmont Select Board member and former chair. Her campaign biography lists degrees from Wellesley College, Cambridge University, Stanford Law School and Boston College, along with legal and teaching experience.

Audits, pensions and local aid

Dionne proposes an independent outside audit of Treasury departments, greater public reporting and improved pension investment management. She says she would work with legislators on lottery funding for municipalities and make it easier for local retirement systems to join the state investment system.

She pledges not to take a state pension, to serve no more than two terms and to refuse campaign or inauguration donations from industries regulated by the office. Those are campaign commitments, not changes already enacted.

Authority and implementation

The Treasury’s responsibilities include cash and debt management, unclaimed property and leadership of boards involving pensions, the lottery and school construction.

The treasurer cannot independently rewrite the entire state budget, change statutory pension benefits or set municipal property-tax rates. Changes requiring legislation would need lawmakers’ approval. Dionne’s materials do not provide a complete cost estimate or quantify how much additional aid any particular town would receive.

The Needham-Dedham Times did not receive a direct questionnaire response from the candidate and does not endorse candidates.
