A free showcase of electric vehicles, e-bikes and electric lawn equipment comes to Copley Motorcars, 37 Chestnut St., on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The event runs from noon to 2 p.m. Green Needham Collaborative and Copley Motorcars are co-sponsoring the showcase, which will put several EVs on display alongside electric lawn gear from Needham Garden & Hardware.
Stu and Caren Carpenter, who operate Copley Motorcars, offered to host the event at their Chestnut Street location, according to Green Needham's event listing. EV owners will be on hand to answer questions about life with an all-electric car. An e-bike owner will also attend to talk about his riding experience and share practical details about e-bike ownership.
Refreshments will be available. No registration is required.
The Sept. 26 date is a do-over. Green Needham had originally scheduled the showcase for Saturday, May 30, but postponed it because of rain in the forecast.
The federal EV tax credit, which had been set to continue through 2032, was eliminated under the 2025 federal budget law. National EV sales fell in the first quarter of 2026, according to Green Needham. The group noted that affordable new EV models are expected to reach the market in 2027 and 2028.
Massachusetts buyers still have state incentives. The MOR-EV program offers rebates of up to $3,500 for eligible new electric vehicles, according to Caribou. Income-qualified residents may receive $3,500 toward an eligible used EV and an additional $1,500 through the MOR-EV+ program.
Green Needham has sponsored EV showcases for several years and has pushed the town to adopt a zero-emission-first vehicle procurement policy, which prioritizes electric options when the town replaces fleet vehicles. The group said it plans to continue working with the town to educate and encourage Needham residents to go electric.
