A Vermont grand jury has indicted a Rutland City couple on felony charges connected to the 2024 crash that killed 17-year-old Macy Piersiak of Needham.
John-Henry Hubert and Kristin Hubert each face a single felony count of enabling a minor to consume alcohol resulting in death, according to VTDigger. Kristin Hubert is a former Rutland County school superintendent.
Investigators determined that the Huberts enabled Piersiak to consume alcohol at their home before the crash, according to the Vermont Daily Chronicle, which reported the indictment on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Piersiak died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Cold River Road in Shrewsbury, Vermont, on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Vermont State Police said she was headed south when she crossed the center line and struck a guardrail, WCAX reported at the time. She was 17.
The Huberts pleaded not guilty on Monday, June 1, 2026, according to VTDigger and My Champlain Valley. They were released without being jailed. The exact timeline of the grand jury indictment and the June arraignment is unclear across public reports.
