Dedham residents have until Friday, Oct. 23, to share their views on preliminary options for the town’s public buildings, including renovation, rebuilding and maintaining existing facilities.
The feedback period follows the Facilities Master Plan Steering Committee’s third community forum, held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Parks & Recreation Offices on Sprague Street. About 40 people attended in person and more than 20 joined online, according to the town’s forum recap.
Consultant Arrowstreet presented possible approaches to buildings with significant condition or space needs. Attendees also discussed how capital projects are funded, potential effects on taxpayers and future uses for town properties.
Small-group activities gathered feedback on facility scenarios to help guide the next phase of planning.
The forum focused on municipal and community buildings but also included an update on the education-model project and recommended school configurations. School options are being reviewed separately by the School Committee and will be incorporated into the broader Facilities Master Plan.
How to participate
Residents can complete the community feedback survey through Oct. 23. The town has also said printed feedback forms would be available at town buildings.
Questions can be emailed to [email protected].
The Steering Committee and Arrowstreet are scheduled to review community feedback at their next public meeting Monday, Oct. 26. Another committee meeting is planned for Monday, Nov. 9.
Those sessions will address which building options should advance to cost modeling, according to the project page.
A townwide facilities plan
Dedham’s first Facilities Master Plan evaluates town-owned buildings and community spaces, including schools, libraries, town offices, public safety facilities and recreation spaces.
The assessment considers building condition, accessibility, space needs, energy efficiency and long-term maintenance. An Existing Conditions Report was released in September.
Earlier public engagement included an April listening session, a survey completed by 463 residents and a June community meeting where survey findings and building information were presented.
The Steering Committee includes representatives from the Select Board, School Committee, Finance & Warrant Committee, Planning Board, Library Trustees and Parks & Recreation, along with community members.
A draft plan is anticipated for public review in winter 2026–27. The final plan will require approval by both the Select Board and School Committee.
