Dedham High girls volleyball lost 3-1 at Fontbonne Academy in Milton on Friday, Oct. 9, extending the Marauders' losing streak to six matches.
The defeat dropped Dedham to 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Tri-Valley League, where the Marauders sit 10th in the standings. Fontbonne, a non-league opponent, improved to 6-6 with the win, according to MaxPreps.
The Dedham Athletics account confirmed the final score on Oct. 9.
The result flipped the season series between the two programs. Dedham beat Fontbonne 3-1 at home on Sept. 17 in their first meeting. The reversal fits a pattern: the Marauders are 4-1 at home this fall but 0-7 on the road.
The road has been unkind.
Dedham entered the week at 4-6, according to a Dedham Athletics post on Oct. 6. A 3-0 loss to Holliston on Wednesday, Oct. 7, preceded the Fontbonne defeat. Those were the final two results in the six-match slide.
Fontbonne entered the match ranked No. 25 in Division III in the MIAA Power Rankings released Oct. 6, according to MassLive. Dedham was No. 29 in the MaxPreps Division 3 state rankings as of Oct. 8.
Head coach S. Anderson and assistant coach L. Scanlon face a quick turnaround. The Marauders have two TVL matches in the coming week: a road game at Westwood on Wednesday, Oct. 14, followed by a home match against Ashland on Friday, Oct. 16.
The Ashland game gives Dedham another chance to play inside its own gym, where the Marauders hold a 4-1 record this season. Westwood, meanwhile, represents another road test for a team that has yet to win away from home.
