Needham families can sign up for a free Holi Workshop at the Needham Free Public Library on Thursday, July 30, where kids and teens will make posters, sketch, paint, and learn the history behind one of India's most celebrated festivals.

The Indian Community of Needham, known as ICON, is hosting the two-hour session from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, 1139 Highland Ave. Holi is traditionally a spring festival of colors celebrated in March, but ICON's July workshop is an educational program, not a seasonal celebration. Participants will explore the story and significance of Holi, how it is observed across different regions of India, and take part in hands-on creative activities.

The lineup includes presentations, poster-making, sketching, painting, and performance. Middle and high school students can also present to the group, which ICON describes as a public-speaking opportunity on the Town of Needham's official calendar listing for the event.

No ticket or membership is required. The workshop is open to all Needham residents and their guests.

The organization's 2026-2027 board is led by President Hemant Chowdhary, with Aditi Paranjape and Karthik Krishnan serving as Youth Engagement co-chairs overseeing programs like this one.

Earlier in 2026, ICON held its outdoor Needham Holi celebration on Saturday, May 16, at Hillside Elementary School, a ticketed afternoon of colors, music, and dance. The July 30 library workshop is a separate, free program focused on younger participants and learning.
