Needham residents looking to pick up a new skill before summer winds down have nine classes to choose from at Needham High School, where Needham Community Education launched its adult summer program series Monday, July 27.

Registration is open.

The lineup runs through Wednesday, August 12, and spans arts, food, wellness, and recreation. NCE promoted the series by urging residents to skip the lazy days of summer and try a class. It's the first summer session under Charly Nanda, who took over as director of NCE adult programs around May 28 after Amy Goldman retired.

Nanda brings a background in arts administration and cultural programming, and has helped shape much of Needham's public art, according to prior coverage of the leadership transition. NCE, a program of Needham Public Schools, has said it plans to keep its adult offerings a welcoming hub for learners of all levels, according to that same reporting on the director change.

  • Sculpt a Ceramic Oyster Plate — Wednesday, July 29, 6 p.m.
  • Boston's Original Shoreline Walking Tour — Sunday, August 2, 3 p.m.
  • Fantasy Football 101 — three Tuesdays starting August 4, 6:30 p.m. (final session August 18)
  • Fermented Foods in Indian Cuisine — Wednesday, August 5, 6 p.m.
  • Needle Felted Frog — Thursday, August 6, 5:30 p.m.
  • Art of the MFA: 250th — Sunday, August 9, and Wednesday, August 12, mornings
  • Fresh Cheese-Making — Monday, August 10, 6 p.m.
  • ASHI Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid Training — Wednesday, August 12, noon

Most classes run within the July 27–August 12 window, though Fantasy Football 101 extends one week past the main series to August 18. All classes meet at Needham High School, 609 Webster St.

What's ahead

NCE has signaled that fall programming will include Mah Jongg mixers, language classes, music instruction, and more art courses, though a fall registration date has not been announced.
