A hit-and-run driver struck a 38-year-old pedestrian on Needham Street in Dedham on Wednesday, Sept. 16, sending the man to a local hospital.

Dedham's E-911 dispatch center received a 911 call at approximately 7:36 p.m. reporting a pedestrian struck near 530 Needham St., according to a Dedham Police Department press release. Emergency responders found the man conscious and alert. He was transported to a hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The vehicle did not stop and continued toward Bridge Street.

About 15 minutes later, a relative of the driver contacted the dispatch center to ask whether anyone had reported a deer being struck, the department said. Officers went to the driver's residence and towed the suspected vehicle to the Dedham Public Safety Building for processing.

Police Chief Michael J. D'Entremont confirmed the account to Patch. The department has identified the driver but has not released the person's name. No charges had been filed as of Thursday, Sept. 17, and the incident remains under investigation.
