Dedham commuters who rely on wheelchairs, walkers or strollers will be able to board at Endicott Station for the first time when two new ADA-compliant mini-high platforms open Dec. 3.

Construction crews broke ground the week of June 15 on the Franklin/Foxboro Line stop at 186 Grant Ave., and as of Aug. 18 had finished site setup and begun excavation and concrete foundation formwork, according to a Town of Dedham project update. Civil access work continues on Depot Street, while crews install footing wall concrete and underground electrical systems on the platform side.

The station has never had raised platforms. It logged about 297 daily boardings in 2024 and was designated a "Tier I" accessibility priority by the MBTA in 2019.

What's coming and when

The project timeline, per the town's update:

  • Aug. 24–28: Precast platform sections placed; canopy installed
  • September: Sheet-metal canopy roof, platform handrails, emergency call box, CCTV and VMS equipment
  • October: Platform surface finishing and pedestrian ramp construction in the station parking lot
  • Nov. 9: Substantial completion (projected)
  • Dec. 3: Platform opens for riders (projected)

Additional finishing work is expected to continue into 2027.

Beyond the platforms themselves, the project includes re-grading the parking area and sloped walkway at the end of Elmwood Avenue to meet ADA standards, reconstruction of sidewalks along both sides of Depot Street, and improved lighting and pedestrian access throughout the station.

Broader context

Endicott is one of 25 inaccessible commuter rail stations the MBTA is upgrading under its $9.6 billion, five-year capital plan. The same freestanding mini-high platform design was previously installed at Franklin, Wellesley Square, West Medford, and Walpole Center stations.

At an October 2025 ribbon cutting for the Franklin Station upgrade, MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said, "There are more commuter rail stations accessible today than ever in MBTA history, and we're not done yet."

Funding for the Endicott project comes from Fair Share Amendment revenues, according to MBTA documentation.

The MBTA's service alert, updated July 16, warns riders and neighbors to expect construction vehicles and daytime activity through winter 2026.

Nearby work wrapping up

The Dedham East Street Bridge, which carries the Franklin Line over East Street between Dedham Corporate Center and Endicott stations, reached substantial completion in July as part of a separate $23.3 million MBTA project. That work included roadway lowering, new sidewalks and repaving.
