The Needham Community Band will bring live music to Memorial Field Gazebo on Thursday, Aug. 13, with a free outdoor concert starting at 6:45 p.m. No tickets or registration required.
The town is inviting residents to pack lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for an evening on the 13-acre park at 92 Rosemary St. The listing appears on the town of Needham's official calendar. No program or set list has been announced.
Memorial Field is familiar ground for summer gatherings. Families spread picnic blankets across the same stretch of grass on July 3 to watch Needham's fireworks light up the sky.
Rain plan
If weather doesn't cooperate, the concert moves indoors to Sunita Williams Elementary School at 585 Central Ave. The school is named for retired Navy captain and NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who served as Grand Marshal of Needham's Fourth of July parade this summer. Williams called the honor "very humbling" in a July interview with the Needham Observer.
